The Liverpool 14-19 Partnership’s ‘Invest to Change Project’ coordinated two key project objectives in 2009 – 2010. A series of bespoke training activities, which were commissioned and delivered to a range of work based learning providers. These included autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) awareness, deaf awareness, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) training and Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI).
In order to put this training into practice links were made with a range of Liverpool special schools and training providers, tpm, Rocket Training and Liverpool Community College. The purpose of this was to offer students with learning difficulties the opportunity to widen their transitional options by attending a range of work experience placements in specific vocational areas.
tpm Director Brian Quinn (an ItC steering group member) commented: "....this has been an invaluable opportunity to put our LLDD training into practice; so many of our teaching and assessment staff participated actively in the various training and work experience activities and the successful outcomes for the students have made it all worth while".
“I had fun working in Hair Tech. Tricia was great and she taught me lots of different hairdressing techniques. There was a lot to learn but I really enjoyed it. Sandra the salon owner was really helpful.” Student J. Case Study 1.
The following 4 case studies outline the progress and experiences of each student.
