Inspiring Business Leader raises career aspirations for Business Administration Apprentices

Emily Mills - PLA Lettings and BA Apprentices Emily Mills of PLA Lettings (pictured rear and centre), inspired Business Administration apprentices recently when she visited the centre to speak about her training and career experiences.

Emily captivated learners as she spoke about leaving school without a clear idea of what she wanted to do and how she became the first female in Liverpool to complete a joinery apprenticeship with Liverpool City Council.

It was at this time Emily explained, that she discovered computers and began teaching herself how to use one. Eventually Emily worked administratively in the Council offices and left with a string of transferrable skills to begin consulting as a web designer. A self confessed ‘geek, Emily was asked by an associate to design a website, but as he couldn’t afford to pay her he offered her a partnership in a new business. Established in this business partnership, she studied at University and now leads four businesses including a restaurant and her new estate agency PLA Lettings.

Extolling the value of her own continuous lifelong education, Emily explained how important it is to be self motivated and passionate about work; encouraging learners to always seek out work to do in the quiet moments and to impress their employers by using their initiative and demonstrating their commitment.

Emily, who has recently undertaken to sponsor one of our Annual Apprenticeship Awards, has five employees undertaking Apprenticeships with tpm and is keen for them to progress to Advanced Apprenticeships, before eventually undertaking PLA Lettings Logo industry specific examinations.
