Equality and Diversity first for five BA ApprenticesJosh Fearon, Hayley Bradshaw, Kelsey Jones, Beth McPoland and Chloe Smith, pictured left, are amongst the first students in the Country to achieve the Equality and Diversity Level 2 Award with EDI, as part of their Apprenticeship Framework with Training Plus merseyside. The Equality & Diversity Level 2 Award is a new qualification offered since February 2009 by EDI and which was collaboratively developed with Training Plus merseyside and is comprised of one Unit at Level 2 and fully accredited on the Qualification Credit Framework. These five learners are the first Apprentices at Training plus merseyside to achieve the value-added qualification.

Training Plus merseyside has provided its own equality and diversity training to learners and employers on Merseyside since 1999. The company has traditionally certificated this process internally. From February 2009 all learners have been offered the EDI Level 2 Award in Equality and Diversity free of charge.

Brian Quinn, Director at Training Plus merseyside who worked with EDI to develop the course said, 'we have trained and certificated young people in equality and diversity issues for years; it has long been our hope that we would eventually gain formal recognition and certification for the work of our students and staff alike. We are especially proud of these five young people as they have taken the extra step of passing the examination, well done to them and their trainer Sue Duffy and thank you EDI for working with us to get to this point'.
