Unparalleled numbers attend 2009 Learner Open Day

TPM Open DayOver 250 people attended the annual Learner Open Day at Training Plus merseyside's Centre on Friday 17th April.

At the end of the event a total of 73 potential learners had completed applications to our Hairdressing, Childcare and Business Admininstration Progrogrammes; these clients are now being offered interview appointments during May and June as they become eligible for work and training.
the majority of applicants also brought their parents or guardians along which is a great starting point for us.
Refrehments were served and all training suites, facilities were laid open. All teaching, assessment, recruitment and support staff were on hand with advice, support and guidance. Current Apprentices gave talks and demonstrations to parents and young people alongside employers who kindly gave their time and expertise to support the event and chat with prospective new recruits for their businesses. Young people were able to get ' hands-on' throughout the event such as:

practicing basic hairdressing techniques
trying out hairstyles using computer software
how to hold an infant using an interactive doll
communication skills using telephone training systems

Connexions Advisor Julie Zavros from the Connexions service was in attendance and provided independent information support and guidance for parents and young people on the day. Of the 73 Applications, 26% were direct referrals from school PA’s and Connexions colleagues, whilst the remainder were marketed by Training Plus Merseyside via careers road-shows and Schools Compact and LSC events attend throughout the year. A big thank you to everyone involved; great Job.
