tpm present keynote speech at GMLSC 'Invest to Change' Conference

Brian Quinn gives keynote speech at Invest to Change ConferenceAt a conference held by Greater Merseyside Learning and Skills Council (GMLSC) on 5th October 2009, Company Director, Brian Quinn gave a keynote speech, detailing how the Company had contributed to the steering group who planned and co-ordinated the project activity and how staff at tpm had benefitted from participation in the 'Invest to Change' workforce development activities, designed to help providers improve services to young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

His presentation cited specific examples of staff training and development such as: independent travel training; Dyslexia Recognition & Analysis; Barriers to Learning; Complex learning difficulties and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as key benefits of involvement. Highlights included key improvements achieved, such as 81% success rates for learners with learning difficulties in 2008-9 and the valuable work of employer and learner champions such as Sandra Brown and Becky Blease.

Brian Quinn stated that ASD awareness was a key feature of the workforce development undertaken by tpm in 2008-9, and was due equally to collaboration with the Liverpool 14-19 Partnership and Autism Initiative's OSSME Team, who delivered bespoke training on ASD and began valuable work on the transition issues faced by ASD learners wanting to gain access to employment with training. An innovative DVD Documentary Report on the activity of the collaboration was screened for the first time at the conference.

Further details and evaluation of the workforce development and capacity building activities can be found in the Greater Merseyside Invest to Change 2008-9 Project Report.
