Apprenticeship Week - Apprenticeship Awards - Employer Grants

Employers Aprrenticeship BadgeApprenticeship Week will take place from Monday 1 February to Friday 5 February 2010. The Week, which is organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), will celebrate the talents and skills of apprentices. It will see apprentices, employers, providers and all those involved with Apprenticeship programmes come together in a vast range of activities and briefings around the nation to celebrate the value of Apprenticeships.

The Apprenticeship Awards 2010 aims to honour and celebrate England’s apprentices, old and new, along with the businesses that employ them, at the seventh annual Apprenticeship Awards. Employers and businesses of all sizes and across all sectors that employ apprentices can nominate themselves or their apprentices for an Apprenticeship award. The prizes will be judged across nine regions and winners will be taken through to a national award ceremony in July. At tpm we will be providing our full support and encouragement to our employers and apprentices to enter the awards. If you would like our help and support with a nomination, you can speak to your usual tpm representative in person or e-mail Director Brian Quinn.

Employer Grants are available between January and March 2010. The National Apprenticeship Service will provide up to 5,000 grants of £2,500 to encourage employers to take on unemployed 16-17 year olds as apprentices. If you would like to express your interest in receiving grant support, please contact the National Apprenticeship Service, either by completing the online enquiry form or by calling 08000 150 600 . Please mention ‘AGE 16 and 17’.

According to NAS research sources; 'Over 80% of people are more likely to use a business if it offers Apprenticeships to young people'.

Companies who employ apprentices can download the Apprenticeship employers badge. A new scheme, launched to recognise businesses who employ apprentices. The Apprenticeship employers badge can be displayed by businesses on their websites to highlight their commitment to Apprenticeships. In return, their logos will then be displayed on the Apprenticeships website.
