tpm Apprentices Inspire LLDD Conference Delegates

Josh Fearon addresses delegates in a cultural workshopAlumni Apprentices Hannah Edwards and Josh Fearon inspired and moved delegates at the Merseyside Learning for Living and Work Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Speke on Wednesday 24th March 2010.

The annual event was organised by the Greater Merseyside Learning and Skills Council, and featured a keynote speech by Peter Little OBE, author of the LSC’s 2005 LLDD planning and funding review ‘Through Inclusion to Excellence’. Five workshops featuring the best practice and provision on Merseyside for learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LLDD) were on offer to delegates throughout the day.

Hannah Edwards addressing conference delegatestpm provided a workshop entitled ‘Embracing LLDD; An Organisation’s Culture’. Hannah and Josh joined tpm staff Stephen Pat, Olly Brown, Carol Fleming and Director Brian Quinn who presented the workshop. Both learners and staff gave individual and moving personal expositions of their experience of tpm’s culture on LLDD in particular their excellent and successful work on Dyslexia with professional partners Adult Dyslexia Access.

Delegates also received an overview of the 2009 Project collaboration on providing work experience placements for learners with ASD, (Autism Spectrum Disorder), in conjunction with OSSME – Autism Initiatives UK, Liverpool 14-19 Partnership and Abbots Lea School.

tpm Director Brian Quinn commented; ‘Hannah and Josh are inspirational to all young people, but especially to those who experience learning difficulty; they have overcome prejudice and barriers to achieve advanced qualifications within their chosen career paths. Hannah’s contribution to the recently launched ‘i-Choose Transition’ DVD produced by Connexions and the Liverpool 14-19 Partnership is a brave and selfless act, which will prove permissive and empowering to other young people who wish to follow in her footsteps’.
