New teaching qualifications for staff
Eleven Training Plus merseyside teaching and assessment staff and four colleagues from other work based learning providers in the city recently completed new teacher training qualifications with Liverpool John Moores University.
In an innovative higher education approach, Margaret Postance, teacher education programme manager at LJMU, and colleague Beverley Pau, delivered the course in-house at Training Plus merseyside's Lime Street centre over ten weeks.
The course, Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), is one of the newest qualifications devised by the government in order to deliver a qualified workforce by 2010 as outlined in the DfES ‘Success for All’ targets.
In September 2007 the government introduced its further education workforce reforms as a commitment to a well qualified and professional workforce across the further education sector in England. The introduction of these important reforms to the training and qualifications of all teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers and instructors include:
- revised teaching qualifications for new teachers and a professional status for all teachers in community learning and development, further education, offender learning and work based learning
- continuing professional development requirements for all teachers
