I left school at 16 with six GCSEs and began to look for full-time work. I came across an advert in the local press about apprenticeships with Training Plus Merseyside so called to find out more - that was almost eight years ago and now I am the company’s personnel officer. I started as a junior administrator in the human resources department, working through my level 2 apprenticeship in business and administration. The company encouraged my development and sponsored my progression onto the advanced apprenticeship, giving me sufficient job responsibility. My staff appraisal highlighted my interest in personnel - as a result the company sponsored me to study for my certificate in Personnel Practice and my ECDL qualifications.
My main responsibilities include implementing and monitoring personnel systems and procedures such as staff application, recruitment and selection processes, annual, maternity, paternity and parental leave, lieu and medical or sickness absence monitoring. I am also responsible for contributing to best practice and legislative compliance of our personnel systems and procedures.
I really value the first class training I have been given. I am proud of the company’s vision and am passionate about new staff receiving the high standard of personnel support and career development that I did. To do this, I’m committed to helping maintain and improve the processes that develop and support our most important resource at Training Plus Merseyside - the staff. Now, I’m exploring level 4 development opportunities with my manager and once qualified, hope to take on responsibility for personnel management.
Three words that best describe Training Plus Merseyside for me are: opportunity, excellence and service. Working for the company offers a rewarding career with genuine support and equality of opportunity in an environment that really values diversity, standards and continuous professional development.
