I've achieved my goal of becoming a nursery nurse and supervisor

I am 23 and have completed level 2 and advanced level 3 apprenticeships in children’s care, learning and development with tpm, along with key skills in communication and application of number.
Previously, I was in sixth form, finishing my A-levels, wondering what my next step in life would be. A friend told me about tpm and I got an interview with them. They found me a job and I enrolled onto an apprenticeship.
I am now a qualified nursery nurse and a supervisor at work, taking care of a pre-school room which I really enjoy. I have many different responsibilities including playtime, indoor & outside play, meeting the children’s individual needs and ensuring parents and my staff are happy.
When I started at tpm, I was very shy and worried how people would perceive me when they found out I had dyslexia and dyspraxia. However, this wasn’t a problem. tpm staff made sure I had everything I needed, and would always go the extra mile to help me. Today I am proud of who I am, and my dyslexia. Thanks to tpm staff, I am a better person and have achieved my goal of becoming a nursery nurse/supervisor and helping others in these situations.
Recently, I helped make a DVD with Connexions to support people with a learning difficulty or disability. I was very happy to be involved in this programme as it shows others that they have opportunities and outlines services they can use. I was overwhelmed by the DVD’s success, and very grateful to have had the chance to share my story. Hopefully it will help other people to believe in themselves and to achieve their goals and dreams like I have.
