My assessor really helped me to understand what was required of me and how to achieve my award
Name: Kate Mawdsley
Sector: Business Administration

I am 25 years of age and work as Business Support Officer in the Planning Department at Liverpool City Council. My main responsibilities include answering phones, planning enquires, dealing with applicants, contact with planners, using database processing applications and dealing with public re-planning enquiries.

In my spare time, I enjoy charity fundraising. Most recently, I abseiled down the Liver Building, raising £500 for Claire House Children’s Hospice. In March I helped raise £1200 for Clatterbridge Cancer Research by doing a skydive with my brother.

I completed my level 2 and level 3 qualifications in business administration with tpm. I’ve gained work skills, and learnt about my rights. I’ve also studied the importance of good, efficient team work and communications which impact on the whole organisation.  What I liked most was that my tutor always took time to fully explain anything I didn’t understand. I really enjoyed participating in all the activities set by the tutor.

The things that have been most helpful to me at tpm are the flexible support, the assessor visits and the knowledge I've gained on both my L2 and L3. My assessor really helped me to understand what was required of me and how to achieve my award, motivating me by pointing out my achievements.

My advice to anyone considering joining a course is to keep good attendance otherwise it’s difficult to pass exams and keep on top of work.

My long term career and training plans are to apply for a higher role within the council and at some point in the future apply for a management qualification.
