Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are high quality work-based training programmes, usually funded by the government for young people aged 16 to 19. People aged 19 and over can also undertake apprenticeships but usually will seek sponsorship from their employer or have to find funding themselves.
Apprenticeships offer:
- a decent starting wage
- valuable qualifications
- work experience in your chosen industry
- transferable skills
The training and qualifications that an apprentice undertakes are as follows
- a national vocational qualification (NVQ) at level 2 for an apprenticeship, or level 3 for an advanced apprenticeship
- Functional skills qualifications, e.g. application of number, problem-solving, communication and using new technology
- A technical certificate such as a BTEC National Diploma or a City & Guilds progression award (included in most apprenticeships)
- Any extra qualifications or requirements that are important for your chosen occupation.
