Is business administration for me?
This course is about business systems and communication. Jobs in this sector are responsible and professional, focusing on business relationships and developing excellent interpersonal skills. You'll need to be organised and well-presented, work well with different professionals and have lots of energy. Punctuality and excellent attendance are necessary as are, commitment and good communication skills.
Can I get funding to do an apprenticeship?
Individuals aged 16 to 19 are usually funded by the government to do apprenticeships. If you're over 19 you can still do an apprenticeship but you'll have to find alternative funding such as employer sponsorship. Contact us if you need more advice about this
What qualifications do I need to start?
You don't need many formal qualifications but you'll need to have a genuine interest in business procedures. Reasonable maths and English skills are important as are interpersonal skills so if necessary your training will be structured to develop these skills. All training is planned to suit your individual needs, ability and learning preferences.
How does an apprenticeship work ?
On a business administration apprenticeship you'll be employed for between 9-12 months in a local business setting, earning a salary whilst training. You'll complete NVQ Level 2 in business administration, a technical certificate and "key" or "functional" skills qualifications which are essential for a successful career in this sector.
What does the training involve?
You will attend our state-of-the-art training centre each week, usually for half a day. Training includes:
- operating office equipment safely
- dealing with visitors
- organising and supporting meetings
- working in your business environment
You may also undertake additional courses in subjects such as equality and diversity.
The rest of your working week is spent ‘on the job’ in your place of work, where you will learn practical and interpersonal skills from business professionals.
What will I gain?
As well as your qualifications you'll acquire strong interpersonal and practical skills. You'll experience being in a real work environment alongside professionals. You'll also learn about respecting people and culture. On completion of your apprenticeship you'll be qualified to work in a variety of business administration roles.
What career progression opportunities are there?
Once qualified, we’ll offer you support and encouragement if you wish to progress onto one of our advanced courses such as the level 3 advanced apprenticeship or NVQ level 3 in business and administration. These 12 - 18 month courses increase your chances of promotion and further advance your career. Beyond this you can equip yourself for a management role with a level 4 qualification. We can also advise you on progressing into higher education programmes such as foundation degrees.
